Grand inauguration of the season, at the Madison Square Garden, New York City, Tuesday afternoon, March 11th. This took place Monday night, and proved, as usual, the feature of all Torch Light Shows ever seen in New York.
The interior of the Garden, beautifully decorated, was arranged with three rings and a stage. A small part was curtained off for the Menagerie.

Home Sweet Home
With the ending of the season comes remembrances of one of the most pleasant tours in the annals of the Barnum and London Shows. Financially speaking the management have no complaints. Socially everything has passed off admirably, and as far as weather is concerned it we had ordered it ourselves we could not have had better. Although the Subrasa Club have disbanded the members will not forget the many tempting dishes set before them by the chief of caterers Fred Mendoza, and the prince of cooks Wm. Ducrow, of course President Smith would complain if Carl Nyegard had a larger orange than himself and then as a natural consequence the irrepressible Crossley (although not belonging to the club) would be obliged to have his say. Brother Dutton as usual contributed his share of conversation and would occasionally read something of interest, but the crowning feature was the rapidity with which the boys always responded to the call of the dinner bill and the remarkable justice they did to the good things set before them and it is not to be wondered that the universal verdict invariably was a king never fared better than us. Taking everything into consideration this season will be one long remembered and when one thinks of the amount of paraphernalia and number of people transported over so many hundreds of miles he becomes completely nonplused when he learns how few accidents have occurred.
